Featured Blogger: Lanae Bond

Lanae Bond, a Christian Modest Fashion and Lifestyle Blogger, is a strong advocate for the idea that dressing modestly not only deals with one’s appearance but an individual’s character as well. Hailing from a small rural town in North Carolina, the 28 year old blogger first got into blogging as a hobby and to learn more about social media. She decided to focus on modest fashion because it was something she truly believed in and had been practicing all of her life. She also wanted to break down stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding modest fashion and how it is a lifestyle more so than a set of rules.

Who was your first style icon?

My first style icon of is grandmother on my mother’s side.  I really think her fashion has really influenced me the most. She had this classic style that was modest yet chic. I loved how she wore hats , pearl necklaces, and blazers. I always loved how she looked in pictures when she was younger. She was such a great stylist in her own right.

What was the biggest challenge you faced as a modest fashion blogger?

The biggest challenge is the fact that not everyone has the same ideas on what  dressing modesty is or have the same guidelines.  One of my biggest fears starting out was that I might offend someone because my modesty was not like theirs. But I learned to stick to my beliefs because I never want to post something I do not believe in just to gain more followers.

How would you describe your personal style and is there a person who is a fashion inspiration to you?

My personal style would have to be classic. I really do not believe in over accessorizing because I prefer a simple and more polished look. Besides the classic and simple style inspiration I got from my grandmother, another person who has been a great influence is Audrey Hepburn. I loved how her style was not flashy or overdone. She often worn classic wardrobe staples like flats and striped shirts which is something I think most women regardless of their style or taste wear.

What is your favorite item in your closet?

My polka dot pleated midi skirt. I wear that skirt all year round because it goes with some many colors and other patterns. It also makes me feel so feminine!

What would you say is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger?

Connecting with others is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger. Since I am introvert sometimes it is hard to make that connection with a lot of people face to face. But being online I was able to get rid of  that hesitation when it came to socializing and reaching out to people. Being a blogger has really allowed me to meet people who are not only nice but are a real encouragement to me.

What’s the best style advice you’ve ever received?

The best style advice is to be confident. My mother always told me to be confident in whatever outfit I am wearing. Wearing confidence is the best outfit a person can wear.

What styling advice would you give other women who want to dress modestly and remain fashionable?

That despite what people say you can do both! One of the best ways to dress modestly and be fashionable is to buy clothes that fit and are  tailored.  Wearing clothing that fits your body will make your outfit look more polished and updated.

In the future where do you hope your blog will take you?

I hope my blog continues to inspire many other  young women who like me are seeking to find what God’s will is for them in their lives.  I want them to not only seek Him in how to be modest but in what God desires them to do with their lives.   We all have a purpose in our lives and I want young women to seek God to discover that purpose.

What advice would you share with women who are thinking about starting a blog?

To make posts that not only year readers would love but what you would love also. When you choose to write about what you love, you would put more care into the post.

  1. Thank you for the feature! I am so excited about this website!

  2. What Lanae said here about modest women not having the same guidelines for modest clothing is so true. What may be modest to one person may not be modest enough for someone else. The way she handled that is great. It’s best to search your own beliefs and dress in a way that you feel will honor God the most.

I also like that Lanae was inspired by her grandmother. It sounds like she was a really lovely woman.
